Blackbird’s Salon Series Dinner Features Local Artist Jason Pickleman
Chef Michael Sheerin and local artist Jason Pickleman will host “Eat My Words: An Evening of Food, Language and Art” in Blackbird’s private upstairs dining room on April 15 for the next installment of the Salon Series Dinners.
The event will start with a Champagne reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. It will be a five-course meal with wine pairings, created and prepared by Sheerin in response to the highly colorful, electric and literal works of Pickleman, one of Chicago’s foremost graphic designers, whose new artwork of neon and large-scale typographic collage will be on display for the first time. Bridging the gap between fine and commercial art, Pickleman has created a body of work both conceptual and popular, applying media as varied as neon, offset printing, silkscreen, collage and photography. Pickleman was included in the exhibition “/Young Chicago/” at the Art Institute of Chicago, and his work has subsequently been placed into the museum’s permanent collection.
The evening at Blackbird will include a discussion with the chef about his inspirations, as well as a poetry reading by Pickleman, who said he will recite his own original work “while channeling William Shakespeare and Jim Carrey.” The Salon Series Dinner costs $95 plus tax and gratuity. For reservations, call (312) 715-0708.
